Guest houses are one of the economic options for staying in foreign countries. Like other metropolitan cities, Seoul has many guest houses. This post covers some of the guest houses that rank high on the Google searches or are most searched on the Korea Tourism Organization website (in Korean).

Popular with foreigners [...] is the Seoul Guest House. Tucked away in sight of homely modern apartment blocks and skyscrapers in the old Bukchon district, it has 10 rooms. When it opened a decade ago, it was the first hostelry of its kind. Others have followed. “Most of our guests are European — British, Germans, Italians — and also Japanese. Americans prefer modern conveniences. When they see the hanok(traditional house), some cancel their reservations. Tuck on a quiet, little corner street, Banana Backpackers offers a clean, cheap, no curfew, and centrally located hostel in the heart of Seoul. It was known as Seoul Backpackers then…The location and the cleanliness of this hostel makes this hostel great! I would recommend this hostel to any traveler. The owner is very kind and helpful, and she speaks excellent English. I needed to rent a cell phone, so she made a bunch of calls and tracked down the best deal for me. The room was clean, had a computer to use, and a high quality shower/bathroom. The other guests were kind and respectful and interesting people. The location is right in one of the best neighborhoods in Seoul, and the guesthouse is right on top of a metro line. This place was probably the largest of all the budget places we stayed in through our trip through Korea. There was not a lot of accommodations either. Unless you count the microwave and mini kitchen. When I read about the place it made me think it was a house but when I got there it looked more like an apartment. (read more reviews)
